Repeated ordinal measurements: a generalised estimating equation approach

چکیده

Cumulative logit and related regression models for ordered categorical data may be expressed as generalised linear models for correlated binary responses. These may be fitted using the generalised estimated equation approach of Liang and Zeger (1986) and yields nearly identical results to maximum likelihood while offering further flexibility. The approach also generalises to deal with repeated ordinal measurements in the same subject, such as those commonly observed in medical cross-over experiments.

An application of isotonic longitudinal marginal regression to monitoring the healing process.

This paper discusses marginal regression for repeated ordinal measurements that are isotonic over time. Such data are often observed in longitudinal studies on healing processes in which, due to recovery, the status of patients only improves or remains the same. We show how this prior information can be used to construct appropriate and parsimoniously parametrized marginal models. As a second a...

Assessing robustness of generalised estimating equations and quadratic inference functions

In the presence of data contamination or outliers, some empirical studies have indicated that the two methods of generalised estimating equations and quadratic inference functions appear to have rather different robustness behaviour. This paper presents a theoretical investigation from the perspective of the influence function to identify the causes for the difference. We show that quadratic in...

Some applications of generalized linear latent and mixed models in epidemiology: Repeated measures, measurement error and multilevel modeling

We describe generalized linear latent and mixed models (GLLAMMs) and illustrate their potential in epidemiology. GLLAMMs include many types of multilevel random effect, factor and structural equation models. A wide range of response types are accommodated including continuous, dichotomous, ordinal and nominal responses as well as counts and survival times. Multivariate responses can furthermore...

repolr: An R Package for Fitting Proportional-odds Models to Repeated Ordinal Scores

Modelling repeated ordinal score data is a common statistical problem, across many application areas. The proportional-odds model is widely applied to such repeated ordinal scores and can be fitted in the repolr package (repeated measures proportional odds logistic regression) in R using the method of generalized estimating equations (GEE). The GEE approach specifies a model for the mean of the...

When is it Better to Compare than to Score?

When eliciting judgements from humans for an unknown quantity, one often has the choice of making direct-scoring (cardinal) or comparative (ordinal) measurements. In this paper we study the relative merits of either choice, providing empirical and theoretical guidelines for the selection of a measurement scheme. We provide empirical evidence based on experiments on Amazon Mechanical Turk that i...
